I bought this book as I was hoping to develop a post Christian spiritual practice which brought me into the spiritual realm of Nature and the whole cosmos. The Celtic people have a strong spiritual connection to the natural world which is captured by Caitlin Matthews in this resource based on the four Celtic seasons of the year and the lunar calendar. This means the reflections, meditations and prayers are in harmony with the rhythms of the Earth, the sun, the moon and the stars. The illuminations are beautiful although reflecting an earlier period in history. Even though I live in the Southern Hemisphere I was easily able to translate the devotions to suit my situation. While I sometimes neglect regular use I return to the book and find it full of treasure and wisdom.
first edition: Daily meditations that are spiritual but far from traditional Christian...I love it. I just ordered the 2004 edition hoping that because the dimensions are a bit larger and it has 16 more pages that the typeset is larger. I would hate to have to give up this treasurer because of my aging eyesight.
My favorite book in the world. I carry it with me everywhere. This is a new copy, and my original copy was lost during my move. It has the most beautiful prayers, devotions, rituals and the like for everything under the sun. It's just perfect, and it's Caitlin Matthews, so right there is enough.
This book has totally met my expectations and put me in touch with my Celtic side. The devotions are well written, very thoughtful, and very useful in today's world. Nothing preachy preachy, just good, honest, reflections on behavior and thoughts. I even started using it when I go into the local prison for my bi-weekly class. It has started some really thoughtful conversations with the men I teach. It has been a very helpful tool.
