Finally a HUGE volume of Kandinsky's writings all in one place for anglophone readers. As we all know, Kandinsky's visual work changed the world of art forever. But many people forget that he spent years composing carefully a myriad of texts as well as textbook reflections on the nature of art, of color, of line and shape. These writings have now been gathered together in a solid translation for our delection. A lifetime of returning to reread these writings will never be enough--they nourish the mind and heart and opened my perception of the world which surrounds me, thus will also do so for you, I presume. Well worth the time and money, and also a great gift for students in both art and literature schools.
I left the recent exhibit at the Guggenheim pretty well confused as to how Kandinsky made his pictures work - especially the drawings & watercolors. They had a copy of this book in their reading room. When I got back home I found it on Amazon. I've been reading through this for about a month now. It's slow reading, but it may unlock the secrets of his complex compositions for me. His examples will provide the support for my studies for a long, long time.Just remember that much of it is purely Kandinsky's opinions based on his Russian Orthodox religion. You will have to examine the passages on spirituality in terms of your own experience and decide for yourself how to project his pedagogue into your own work.If you do non-representational art or are even at all interested in abstract art, you must read this book.
I'm learning a lot from reading Kandinsky and it is wonderful to have his writings all in one place. This version has publishing hiccups (some page repeats, distracting word spacing, occasionally blurry printing) but no deal breakers and for the price I paid (used) it's a good deal. Five stars for content, one or two stars for presentation. If you're fussy keep looking but do not overlook Kandinsky.

Really great book in great condition.
If you are researching Kandinsky this is the book for you. It is comprised of all his popular writings.There are no color reproductions of his work included.
Due to the size of the book it is not easy to carry around with me but I am enjoying it immensely especially as I find the English translations sometimes better than the French.
I ordered and received the item in the picture. I hadn't carefully read the Hartford College Libarary label though. It says Vol. 2 and that's what I received. Now the seller wants to give me half my money back so I can purchase Vol. 1.. but from who?Seller is right that returning it is a messy chore. Maybe I will since I paid a decent price for what I thought was a complete book but in a better than paperback binding for long term use.BEWAREHowever this is an excellent edition -- nice large print, well bound.. oh if I only had book one!
